This is VISIONS 25th season. We are happy to provide parent, student and school references who can speak to the consistent quality of our programs. Our service and cultural immersion experiences take place around the world and include Spanish, English and French-speaking sites. The overview will be helpful for your school's directory.

Overview: VISIONS Service Adventures offers summer community service programs in under-resourced communities around the world. Programs blend ambitious service work, cultural immersion, and adventure. We live as a group in a local neighborhood, and we complete construction, environmental, and social service projects. Time is set aside for travel and excursions on weekends. High school and middle school programs are available in South, Central and North America, the Caribbean, Cambodia, and Ghana. French and Spanish language immersion in some locations.

Program Locations: Peru, Ecuador & Galapagos, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Guadeloupe, British Virgin Islands, Cambodia, Ghana, Montana, Mississippi, Alaska

Ages / Grades: High school programs for 14 - 18 year-olds. Middle school programs for 12 - 14 year-olds.

Young Ambassadors for Wilderness

Student Applications due this Friday!

Young Ambassadors for Wilderness is a new program for teenagers who love wilderness and want to work to protect wilderness throughout their lives.

Students currently in grades 8-10 are eligible to apply for this unique program. Young Ambassadors for Wilderness spend 6-10 hours a month working with an adult mentor, communicating with peers throughout the state, and learning wilderness, leadership, and communication skills.

Unique opportunities include:
Wilderness outings
Shadowing a wilderness ranger
Attending the National 50th Anniversary of Wilderness Conference in New Mexico in October 2014
The program is a 20 month commitment and runs April 2013 - November 2014.

Applications are due March 15, 2013.

Yellowstone Wildlife Ecology Summer Research Program Experience the power of conservation where it all began — in Yellowstone, the world’s first national park. On our Wildlife Ecology Program, you’ll walk among bison and elk; you’ll track Yellowstone wildlife, from grizzlies to pikas, across ancient volcanic plateaus.

ENGINEERING SUMMER PROGRAM

Engineering Summer Program Application Deadline: March 31, 2013 The College of Engineering and Applied Science along with the Wyoming Engineering Society, J. Kenneth & Pat Kennedy Endowment, Mr. Paul N.Scherbel, and UW Academic Affairs offers high school juniors an opportunity to participate in a summer program of hands-on experiences in various engineering fields. You might have a chance to build a digital circuit, study solutions to an environmental issue, program a robotic device, or design timber trusses. Laboratory sessions provide basic instruction: you put your knowledge to the test. As an ESP participant, you'll work one-on-one with faculty members and advanced students. Your curiosity and enthusiasm - not tests and grades - will inspire discovery. This one week program will expand your horizons, develop your creative thinking and problem solving skills, and challenge your imagination. ESP is held on the University of Wyoming campus, with some of the best laboratories and equipment in the Rocky Mountain region. Approximately thirty students will be selected to participate in the program. Students who are interested in any career area are encouraged to apply. The field of engineering can often be excellent preparation for advanced degrees and careers in medicine, law, business, as well as the various fields in engineering. Engineering is built on the principle of solving problems in the world around us and improving the quality of life for the human race. ESP is committed to exploring the field of engineering, the development of leadership skills, and improving human service characteristics in each participant. Those who are accepted into the program will be required to pay the total who are accepted into the program will be required to pay the total cost of $100 for an activity fee. All other program costs are provided by the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Wyoming Engineering Society.
